Give Thanks For Y2K

Preparation, Preparing For Y2K, Getting Through, What Will Happen,

by Immanual Hunt

In their infinite, albeit unconscious wisdom, a small group of computer programmers have presented this world with a most tremendous opportunity. That small and select group writing the infamous COBOL code were surely guided by the unseen hand of god when they made that seemingly innocent decision to use just two digits for computer dates instead of four. We do indeed owe them our sincere gratitude for that Y2K bug as it is now referred to.

I have given much thought to this little bug lately, and I am truly in awe. Sometimes I just have to stop and smile as I hear a voice whispering in my ear: "The Lord works in strange and mysterious ways."

Strange indeed. Being a graphic artist and a web designer, I earn my living working 10 -12 hours a day on these blessed computers that are going to prod us onto the next, and oh so important, step in the evolution of mankind. Mysterious indeed! How could that decision to save a few hours worth of work - the time that it would have taken to write the couple hundred lines of code necessary for computers to recognize the first two digits of a year's date - lead to perhaps the greatest gift of the millennium?

Please join me in the understanding that the Y2K bug comes to us as a dear friend offering aid in a time of great need. We should be ever so grateful for it. Without the Y2K bug, we would all soon be up the proverbial creek without a paddle. Indeed, give thanks to the powers that be for this most wondrous messenger!

Before you think I’ve fallen completely off my rocker, consider the situation. Consider it well. Should the crashes crash, and the outages out, what exactly are the consequences going to be? It is ever so important that you ponder this question. For if you look into it deeply, you will come to see that should only half of what some experts are predicting come to pass, the only way through the disruptions will be together. Together in every sense of the word.

If we resort to hoarding food and purchasing weapons and such, if we go out and buy gas powered generators so that we may have light while our neighbors stumble in darkness, if we diligently collect all the material needs that would see us through 90 days of lawlessness and violence while we hide in our boarded up basement or bomb shelter as some experts advise, does this sound anything at all like togetherness? Yet, as I have said - and you will see if you give serious thought to the situation - the only way through it will be together.

In the coming months, I will be presenting a series of articles in the In Light Times newspaper as well as in New Beginnings on this topic - highlights from an outline that is being created in association with Spiritual Endeavors on preparing - in togetherness and in community - for the greatest challenge of this millennium, and the greatest opportunity of the next. How to start communicating with your neighbors. How to work and plan together in small local groups. What to plan for, and how long to plan for it. And how to accomplish the most by spending the least - after all, the spirit of community is free.

It is certain that something is going to happen. It is uncertain exactly what is going to happen. But in togetherness we will overcome what may. That is why we should all be grateful for this situation: it is going to force us into a situation of community and togetherness. And in establishing that community, we will have set up, and already have in place, the groundwork necessary for getting through the quickly approaching years of major earth changes. In reality, that is the gift that Y2K brings us.

We have all known that changes are coming. We have all seen the many warning signs that mother earth has been providing; the fantastically increased levels of geological activity, the ever intensifying shifting of the weather patterns, etc. Yet what have we done in preparation?

We have seen that when the adversity of these minor warning signs presents itself guised as floods and storms, those who come through it have done so by working together and developing what can be called an instant feeling of community. Perhaps that is why so many of these adversities have been visited upon the lesser developed countries thus far. They are, after all, not nearly as removed from the spirit of community as we in the technological and industrial countries are. It need only take a major storm to remind them of the ways of togetherness.

But in this country, how far have we strayed from that basic human camaraderie? Let us all take advantage of the greatest gift of the millennium. Let us dig deep into our unconscious memories and rekindle the dying embers of community. Let us once again work together and care for the well-being of one another. And let us begin now.

Should we rise to the occasion of Y2K - even if nothing at all happens - we will find that we are prepared for whatever the Earth has in store for us during the coming years of change. Should we not rise to the occasion and choose instead to continue to procrastinate the development of our spirits in community, what hope can we have for the quickly dawning future.

Give thanks for Y2k. It is a call to awaken - the likes of which we have never seen before. And awaken together, my dear friends. The time is quickly upon us.
